Got decisions to make about its future?

If you are working to save your family’s Barn or that great old Barn that symbolizes your Town’s agricultural history, you are not alone!

Across America, hundreds of individuals, families, towns, and historical societies have declared that their Barns will continue to be part of their visual landscape, as useful farm structures, or beginning new lives as educational and community resources.

The National Barn Alliance is a nation-wide, non-profit organization coordinating these efforts to save America’s Historic Barns. Our members are farmers and city dwellers, students, historical groups, timberframers, and lots of people who just love Barns.

Our work includes assisting States and localities in creating Barn preservation programs and networking nationally with all existing Barn groups and allied historical organizations.  We publish an informative national newsletter, and an educational curriculum for grade school children.  We provide knowledgeable Barn preservation speakers, and host the annual National Barn Preservation Conference to share current strategies and concepts for successful barn preservation projects.

Protection of Rural Historic Structures

The NBA is not only concerned with the documentation of barns and rural historic structures, but also in their long-term protection.
A property may be eligible for local landmark status through either a county or state process. Check with your State Historic Preservation office.
A property may also be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Check with your State Historic Preservation office.
Insurance coverage for rural historic structures can be difficult, if not impossible, to obtain. The NBA, as well as other national preservation organizations such as the National Trust for Historic Preservation, has been tracking this problem for some time.

Conservation or Preservation Easements
